...I’m out on a case
right now. A little matter of blackmail, politics and bad
behaviour from so called good people. Not to mention the odd dead
body, and a couple of beautiful ones too. I’m sure you’ll be
reading about it when the case is closed.
If you’re thinking of hiring me, maybe you should know a bit more about the outfit. Well, we’re small. We’re not likely to have Pinkertons looking over their shoulder, if you see what I mean.
Most of the time there’s just the two of us. Phoebe, my assistant is young, leggy and brutally honest. There have been a few over the years, but Phoebe is the best. She’s certainly the only one that boxed for Roedean.
Our offices are in Covent Garden, just off the Piazza. They’re small, but characterful. These days the market’s full of tourists rather than vegetables, I can’t say I prefer it. But then I’m a vegetarian.
What kind of work do we do? The answer’s all sorts, but definitely not any sort. A lot of the time it seems to involve beautiful women. But then maybe they get into more trouble than the other kind.
By the way, I’m not the kind of detective that keeps a bottle of scotch in his filing cabinet. I don’t drink and I don’t smoke. I try to live a simple life according to Buddhist beliefs, but it doesn’t always work out that way.
